I was looking to replace my 2010 Ford Fiesta with a comfortable and slightly larger daily driver. It needed to be big enough so when my 2 children (currently 8 and 5) sit in the back, they have enough room to be comfortable, but also as I plan on keeping the vehicle for 5+ years, it will need to be big enough for them as they continue to grow like weeds.
Time owned: 3 to 6 months. The KT34XA (6el) is the first triband yagi I own. It is on a crank up tower and I have very good results with this antenna when it's between 15m and 18m above the ground. 2:1 SWR bandwith covers all bands, with SWR lower than 1.5 in the CW subbands.
I was very focused on ease of use features, like adaptive cruise control, AEB, Lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, reversing camera, rear cross traffic alert, Sat Nav, Android Auto ETC. The Sport + I think represents outstanding value across the board. The 2.0 litre natually aspirated engine delivery smooth and responsive power (considerable better than the Impreza I had it pitted against). The leather interior is very comfortable and stylish, and the outstanding 8.0 infotainment system is very responsive, easy to use and see. The car is soo easy to drive, a very nicely balanced 6 speed auto transmission delivers very very close to the ticketed 7.2-7.4L/100Km advertised on the sticker. It looks amazing in white, and even though I've not applied any tint as yet, it keeps reasonably cool, even over the 35+ brisbane day's we've had over the recent weeks.
I'm still early into the ownership, but so far, with the 7 year warranty, the dealer discounts on the capped price servicing, the very reasonable entry price, and the very stylish new look of the BD version, I couldn't be happier.Cons so far really only as follows:Boot liner looks a bit flimsy (the part that sits on top of the tyre). I can see this possibly deteriorating?Boot it a bit fiddly to close, needs a bit of force, if you close it gently to catch, it kind of just bounces (but nothing you can't get used to)Officially in love with it, very much looking forward to years of trouble free motoring.
Car Dealers are OK but Kia customer service over the phone is terrible. Never listen to customer and rude.Problem with cars- Radio and reversing camera had problem from first day.- recently been Kia Moorooka and find out front tyres are gone.
I do have deep concern about the quality of the tyre. They said they not manufacturing the tyre buy from someone. Reducls answer from Kia manager. Please buy some quality Japanese brand. You pay little extra at initial stage but worth quality and service.Good Luck. My Kia has blown a ridiculous number of headlight bulbs since purchase. I've become quiet good at pulling out the front end and replacing blubs.
I asked for this problem to be fixed under warranty and left the car for a day. When I returned I was told there is nothing wrong with the electrics and was charged for the labour for wasting their time. And so I continue to blow one bulb after the other. NOT HAPPY.I have also had the 'safety' feature disabled which allows the car to lock you out while it is sitting with the engine running. Living on a property out west I have to open gates before getting onto public roads.
More than once I had my door blow shut, the car lock itself, and I've been left to walk back to the house for a spare key. My handbag and phone were inside the car of course, and it was several miles in the middle of summer. I'm 60 and not well. NOT HAPPY.I won't even start on the boot that rarely opens or the windscreen wipers that only kind of work. Won't buy another. Warranty doesn't mean much.
But it IS good on fuel. I had same issue here. Now waiting for KIA dealer to deal on mybehalf.
They said mine 5 years only, seem mine got letter say Feb 2014 i got this Jul 2013a bit weird KIA. Sat nav stop working so the reverse camera imagenah radio 1 channel only. The rest hang. So hope the dealer NOBLE KIA can help to resolve the issue even after they said warranty expired.7 years warranty new one only 3 years for infotain and 1 year for all LED lights unit, door panel 3 months or 6 months depending on the problem. Watch out fellow KIA buyer. Purchased this as an ex fleet vehicle last week.
The vehicle had only done about 51,000 k's when i picked it up but i only do about 9,000 a year. Private use only. It seemed to be pretty well looked after. First the transmission. I've never driven one of these before now, but i couldn't believe the seamless gear changes. You can barely feel them. It hasn't hunted for the right cog either.
I was surprised just how much grunt the 112 kw donk has. No lack of it if you give it a bootful. The hatch has an incredible amount of space. The tyres that are on it are ok, but I'll replace them with something better when the time comes. Road noise is minimal. The factory audio in this is very good and as yet, I've had no problems. Some people have stated that they are having issues with theirs.
I haven't used the Cruise or Bluetooth yet so i can't comment on them. The digital and analogue speedo's both correspond with each other, so i'll have to presume that they are correct. The seats are comfortable but the passenger side sits a bit low. I would guess they are all like that in the base model. I took it for a run to Caboolture and back from Bracken Ridge yesterday and the trip meter just dropped down to 5 litres per 100 klm's or 20 kpl. That is approx 56 mpg on standard unleaded.
2,000 RPM in 6th at 100 kph. That's 900 RPM less than my old manual Fiesta in 5th at the same speed.
Approx 7.2 kpl around town. All of these figures are better than my old 2013 Fiesta manual. That's exceptional for a bigger and more powerful car.
Brakes are very good but i will have them independently checked to check the wear. Transmissions in these have no service time. Basically sealed for life, but i checked with Kia and they told me, only under very, very severe operating conditions does the fluid have to be replaced.
Even states in the handbook, don't even worry about it if it looks a bit off colour. Some reports on YouTube show that flushing the system can even damage it, so i'll leave it alone. If it lasts the 7 year warranty period, i'm happy. Being an ex fleet it only has 150,000 klm warranty, but that's no problem. Everything works at the moment and at least i can turn that accursed traction control off on this.
It's even got a temperature gauge. Electric power steering is well weighted and is not quite as direct as the old Fiesta, which means i'm not constantly over correcting like i was with the other one.
Rear leg room is excellent. New Cerato's no longer have a full sized spare. Thankfully, this one does and a CD player. The spark plug intervals should be 60,000 and not 45,000 unless you want to put Iridium in. Servicing costs should be kept to a minimum being every 15,000klms.
If you want to purchase your own parts, ebay can be a very useful tool, especially with filters. One final thing. I prefer to purchase an ex fleet vehicle with a few more klms on it. At 50,000, this suggests to me that the company has had no problems and that is why they've kept it a little longer. Update:: After a while, i noticed a rattle around the hatch area. Do you think i could find it? Pulled everything out the back, twice.
Checked back seats, even the number plate surround. So, i thought, i wonder. Shut the hatch and pushed the bottom of it up and down and i could hear a slight noise. Make no mistakes with weird noises from cars. Sound travels. Although i had a rough idea where it was coming from, it turned out it wasn't.
Every time i went over a speed bump, creak creak. I guessed and it payed off. I saturated the hatch struts and the locking mechanism with CRC. I even tightened the rubber stops on the hatch lid. Shut the hatch, went 'round the back and gave it a couple of pushes and lo and behold, gone. Took it over the same speed bumps several times.
It could have been any one of the above mentioned things, but i tend to think i jagged it. I put this up because i read somewhere that someone else had a rattle in the back they couldn't find.

While i'm on it, the insurance on this is cheaper than my old 2013 Fiesta. I got an $18 refund when i transferred the policy. Approx $262 through NRMA. Also, thank god it's got a chain and not a belt. Edit:: I have had no problem with the Cruise control at any speed.
Accurate to the nth degree. Edit::: My only real gripe is the passenger seat sits very low. I would think they'd all be the same.Purchased in October 2019. I've had this car now for 2 years and she's a beauty. Good reliable engine and quality build all round. Would definitely buy a Kia again based on this experience.
Picked up the Cerato for about $14K in Nov 2016 — pretty much exactly 3 years old with 28,000kms on the odometer. I've reached 60,000kms now and no mechanical breakdowns.
I bet you can get a better deal now on this version of the Cerato. I still have manufacturers warranty until 2020! Only minor issues like the cruise control speed set rocker sticking a little bit, and occasionally problems connecting the bluetooth with my phone, other than that I can't think of anything wrong with it. The 1.8L engine is actually very powerful for the size too, I get more power than I did in my old 2.0L 2004 Elantra. Worth a look at buying if you find one with low kms and/or at a good price. I bought my Cerato in March 2017. The price and 7 year warranty were the biggest attractions for us.
Great car to drive, very comfortable and economic. However, we have had 3 entertainment systems so far. It turns itself on and off, extremely staticy phone calls (it sounds perfect on the drivers end but shocking on the receivers end), no volume comes through at certain times, the camera turns itself off in the middle of reversing.Kia has wiped their hands of it and told me I was the only one in all of Australia with the issue.
Blamed me and said I must’ve been doing something wrong or that it was all down to phone reception even though I had video evidence of it happening. This has been the biggest disappointment for me and has definitely put me off ever buying through Kia again. This is a great little car. Mine is 6 speed manual, hatch back Cerato year 2010.Zippy little car has lots of guts and I get high 500's in kms in Winter but that drops dramatically to high 300's in kms in Summer when the air conditioner is on all the time (Perth climate).I use it mainly for shops and school runs and do a fair few kms in a week - over 250km. Compared to my last car which was an SUV, this is a gem on the fuel and is much more fun to drive. The most annoying thing about this car, and omg, it is SO ANNOYING, is the automatic locking of the doors once you start driving.
I think it's dangerous, no doubt in my mind. And it is so inconvenient.
Picture this scenario (and it happens every single day). I arrive at the first kid's school for drop off. I park the car.
The keys are still in the ignition because I'm not stopping, I'm just parking to get him out. I walk to the boot. Kids can't get out of the car when the keys are still in the ignition half the time. If I go to the shops and leave my kids in the car (they're teenagers so stop freaking out and I leave the air con on for them anyway), unless I remember to manually unlock all of the doors, if that car started rolling backwards or they needed to get out of the car, it's locked! Stupid stupid thing and it will totally put me off buying a car with this feature in the future. It should be an option you can turn on if you want it, not a permanent setting.
This is a Kia for goodness sake, not a porsche, and I'm in Perth not New York so the chance of me being carjacked is pretty tiny. I have owned four of these and love them. Research showed best value for the money and a 7 year warranty. Very roomy in the rear for carrying lots and a very comfortable drive. SA dealership Reynella excellent, allowed me to trade in in Adelaide and pick up new vehicle in Queensland when I moved interstate. Eagers Kia Brisbane average.
Car not as advertised ( they advertised it as 2018 and it turned out to be a 2017 model.) They failed to remove my name from registration in a timely manner so I received a speeding fine incurred by them two weeks after I traded in my old vehicle. Had to go to the trouble of finding a JP to prove it!! Purchase car in Nov 2016 and even as I drove it out of the dealers I felt the brake pedal vibrate when applying the brakes. In the first 5000kms it had the from disc's skimmed and the brake pads replaced. This fault should have been picked up at pre delivery, if it had one.It was advertised as having Android Auto and after a week of not being able to get it to work I returned it to the dealer because they had not loaded the Android Auto software.
Again, this fault should have been identified at pre delivery. The car has now done 40,000kms and for all of those kms the cruise control has been faulty. It sometimes won't increase speed when the + button is pressed and often when the resume button is pressed it engages and instead of resuming the previous speed it increases by 2kmh.Dealer first told me they were all like this and after having taken in back 4 times they relaced the cruise control switch which made no difference at all.I now have to drive with the digital speedo constantly displayed so I can accurately monitor my speed. This means the distance to empty and trip meter display can't be used.Radio has been replaced due to poor reception.
No improvement.Extremely disappointed with the vehicle and would not purchase another Kia. Also, disappointed with the poor level of service from the dealership, sales and service departments. I bought this car brand new, and have not yet had a first service, in this time: The constant vibration noise from the hatch cover is very annoying, and has you asking yourself while driving ( what's that noise ) - The on road noise is awful compared to my previous RIO, it is very loud like being in an air craft cabin ( constantly looking for noise cancelling headphones) I am not really happy with this car, I thought i would be from upgrading from a brand new RIO, thinking a Cerato would be even better then a model under. Well it is not.
The RIO in my opinion, is much much much quieter car to drive with road noise, handles bumps on road better, and is in my opinion an overall better car then the Cerato. Would I put my name to suggesting anybody actually buy a Cerato = NO.
RIO = yes but Cerato =NO spend a little more and get a better car, I will be flipping this brand new Cerato very soon, as I am just not happy with the loud road noise ( especially on older roads ) as driving has to be pleasurable, and in the Cerato it is not. Vehicle was purchased brand new last year.
We were drawn to the 7 year Warranty, Full Sized Alloy Spare wheel and the list of features on the car including Android Auto, large boot and Sat Nav, Auto Head Lights and Day time running lights. Love the 15000km service intervals and the fact that its a normal 6 speed auto. The car drives well and my daughter has been learning to drive on it and loves it. When we first got it we found it had a musty smell that was not pleasant compared to most cars but this disappeared after 6 months. We think it was the new car rubbers and plastic. Cruise Control can be a bit irratic and the digital speedo show this up so we keep the digital speedo off.
The speedo is also out by about 10% according to Highway Speed Radar GPS and mobile speed apps. It is set too low so no speeding tickets alas this is out by too much in 2018 in our opinion and there is no fix according to other people who have complained about it. So we have learned to accept these little problems. Also because it is not a CVT it can be a little thirsty on petrol compared to others in the market. Overall its a neat comfortable car and we may consider to purchase the latest model in a few years because the updated inside interior looks like a Kia Stinger which is a very stylish looking car.

Another thing to do is buy just the 3/8'-24 die and thread everything using that but you would have to make sure to purchase the -24 thread nuts. However the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes will only stock the more common -16 pitch. The die is anywhere from $6-10I heard that there are some SO-239 to 3/8' adapters that use a course thread but never got a response with a source. That would be much better. This project was meant for people that only have hand tools. If you have no tools at home then purchasing directly from Arrow is suggested.
But I would consider purchasing the die/tools as an investment because you can also use them to make other antennas. I'll be upfront and say that the antenna is not my design.
I wish it was but from my research it was Allen Lowe (N0IMW) who designed this particular antenna. I was very impressed in the antenna his garage shop.adjust the attachment up and downThat is to account for people cutting things to the wrong length or using different materials. You would move the feedpoint up or down to 'fine tune' the J-pole to obtain lowest possible SWR.If you follow the instructions on my prints exactly, use the exact materials called out and make the proper cuts and threads, it's broadbanded enough to not require any tuning.I found that almost all people who e-mailed saying the antenna doesn't work did not follow the instructions or substituted material. Stuff is cut short, drilled in the wrong spots and I even had one person who was insistent that my prints were garbage to find out they used fiberglass angle instead of aluminum because of 'insulation properties'.If you wanted to be extremely anal, you could cut the elements a half inch short, drill and tap a hole and install a machine screw with jam nut.
A couple times to find out it's a big pain in the butt to get the best SWR on both bands.yours uses the insulated feedpoint at the bottomThe SO-239 to 3/8' adapter insulates the 19in element from the 6 and 58in elements. I know if you made it the way I show on my prints but mounted to the middle of the mast, the signal would couple to the mast and throw everything off. That's why it's suggested to mount it to the top of the mast.As for incorporating the VHF element into the mast, I have never thought about it and it could possibly work. I haven't personally tested it and next time I make one, I might give it a shot.If you do go this route and you have an analyzer, please let me know and provide photos. I literally have almost no idea in antenna and rf matters, but I do know that not all elements that do something are driven elements.Take the yagi for examples, except for the driven dipole there's a whole load of elements that do something based on the inductive and capacitive coupling of themselves to the driven element, which is pretty meaningful in magnitude unless they are spaced several wavelengths apart from it.
Even in vhf, that would be almost tens of meters/yards, or triple the number if you measure in feet.Based on that, I conclude that the element you question is probably otherwise coupled to the main element, and even though that one might not resonate, the coupled one does. Also makes a dual-band J-pole, much like ItsBail's.That's where I got the design from. The original owner of Arrow antennas (not sure if he still is) published the design but the How-To was a text document with some neato ASCII art. All I did was make it in 3D and make a set of drawings that people can easily understand.By no means is it my design.
You can make the exact same thing and save some money. However if you don't have the tools, purchasing one from Arrow would be the way to go. Arrow seems like a good company. I'm 100% happy with the 1/4 wave I bought.
I'm also quite pleased with the copper J-pole I made.Speaking of J-poles, Like many, I've made a roll-up J-pole out of window line for my go bag. I used it to demonstrate a RigExpert aa-600 at a club meeting. It really interacted with the people standing too close, throwing off the SWR.
That made for a good demonstration. As such an antenna would often be deployed from a tree branch or an existing metal pole, or perhaps near a metal building. I'm wondering if there's an optimal distance from the support where the coupling becomes advantageous in terms of increased gain in a given direction?
Or would it just be best to always keep it a wave length away from such objects?/thread highjack.
